Can Xu set to return in October!
Over the past 24 hours it was announced that former WBA Featherweight champion Can Xu (18-3, 3) [徐灿] would return to the ring on October 7th. The former champion, who hasn't fought since losing to Leigh Wood in July, will be facing Mexican fighter Brandon Leon Benitez (18-2, 7), in Florida.
Xu, who's career was really derailed by the pandemic, has fought just once since 2020, the loss to Wood, and the momentum of wins against Jesus Rojas, Shun Kubo and Manny Robles II is completely dead. He has quickly gone from being a must watch fighter, with an all action style, to a forgotten man, and the lack of activity is a major shame for someone who was a perpetual punching machine just a few years ago. It has been reported that following the loss to Wood, Can fell into a deep depression, and we hope he is now over-that.
As for Benitez he is looking to score the biggest win of his career, and build on a 4 fight winning streak. Notably he has been stopped in both of his losses, with those losses coming when he faced unbeaten fighters. Whilst he has yet to score any wins of note he does have an interesting win over Jose Armando Valdes Bernal, with their 2017 bout being curtailed due to rain leading to the judges scorecards being read after 6 rounds, rather than the scheduled 8.
The bout, for those wanting to watch, will be streamed on the Probox website,
