Shigeoka may face IBF king Valladares in 2023!
Earlier today izquierdazo.com released an interview with IBF Minimumweight champion Daniel "Cejitas" Valladares (26-3-1, 15). In that interview the champion revealed that he is preparing for his first defense, which may see him travel to Japan in the new year, to defend against unbeaten Japanese youngster Ginjiro Shigeoka (8-0, 6) [重岡銀次朗].
In the interview Valladares states there are talks for him to fight in Japan, with details revealed that the bout could take place as early as January.
In regards to Shigeoka, the champion explains that Shigeoka is "a kid with a few fights" and adds that "he has a strong hand, but I have faced rivals of his level and I think we can take the fight out of him."
For Valladares the bout would see him defending the title he won in June, when he took a split decision against Rene Mark Cuarto. He certainly has the edge in experience, and is a talented fighter, but this would be his first bout away from Mexico and only his second bout since the start of 2022, with the other being the win over Cuarto.
As for Shigeoka the bout would be his first world title bout, and would also be a step up in class, however he has looked destructive in Japan where he has already won the WBO Asia Pacific and Japanese Minimumweight titles, and trains along side other top Japanese fighters, such as WBO Minimumweight champion Masataka Taniguchi and WBC Light Flyweight champion Hiroto Kyoguchi.
