Nishida and Pelesio make weight for regional title bout
Tomorrow fight fans at the Sumiyoshi Ward Center in Osaka will get the chance to see WBO Asia Pacific Bantamweight champion Ryosuke Nishida (5-0, 1) [西田凌佑] defending his title against Filipino challenger Aljum Pelesio (11-1, 6).
Today, ahead of their bout, the two men took part in their weigh in for the bout, and both men made the 115lb limit with easy. In fact they did so with some room to spare, as both men came in at 114.75lbs and both looked confident and comfortable at the weight.
Whilst both men made weight it was interesting to see Nishida looked the bigger man. In fact he looked a weight class bigger than Pelesio. It was somewhat like a natural Bantamweight weighing in along a natural Super Flyweight.
After making weight Nishida, who not only enters as the regional champion but also a world ranked contender, explained that he struggled to make weight and that the cut to 118lbs was hard this time. A couple of days ago he was around 0.6lbs over the limit, and although he had made it with some room to spare it seems his days at 118lbs are somewhat limited. In regards to the fight he suggested he was going to stop Pelesio in the second half of the bout.
Dubbed "Kansai's Cinderella Boy", Nishida is looking to defend his title here and climb up the rankings towards a potential world title fight over the next few years.
As for Pelesio, he stated he going to be aggressive but had respect for the champion.
