Packers Player Had Damning Comments On Justin Fields After Bears Loss
In 2019, the Chicago Bears lost a disheartening game at Soldier Field 10-3 against the Green Bay Packers. It was stunning how anemic the offense looked. What stung even more came after the game. Packers cornerback Tramon Williams asked about how the defense managed to have so much success against an offense that put up 28 points on them in the last meeting. His statement was a glaring red flag at the time. He stated the defense knew that if they could get Mitch Trubisky to stay in the pocket and “play quarterback,” they had a good chance of winning. Justin Fields was supposed to be different.
Well, they say time is a flat circle. Again, Chicago couldn’t muster anything on offense against Green Bay, scoring nine points in the season finale and allowing the Packers to make the playoffs. Fields managed only 148 yards passing while getting sacked five times. It was another clunker against the Bears’ biggest rival. He is now 0-5 against them. Sure enough, almost like clockwork, the same Packers beat writer spoke to another Packers defender about the game.
This time, it was linebacker Quay Walker. The comment was almost exactly the same.
Justin Fields doesn’t scare the Packers; that should tell you everything.
Yeah, he’s a terrific athlete. He can make some eye-popping players. The problem is good teams can keep those to a minimum. If you do that, Fields doesn’t have enough consistency to put up points on a regular basis. Green Bay went in with the same game plan. Stop the run, contain the pocket, and force Fields to beat them with his arm. Once again, he wasn’t able to do it. If your biggest rival has no respect for the guy under center, then that guy shouldn’t be under center anymore, regardless of how much teammates or fans may like him.
Until the Bears find a quarterback Green Bay must respect, they’ll never gain any traction in this rivalry. Jerry Angelo couldn’t find the guy. Ryan Pace couldn’t. Now it’s Ryan Poles’ turn. He holds the #1 pick in the draft. He has his choice of any QB in the 2024 class. There is bound to be one he thinks has the necessary potential to become the franchise guy this organization needs. Justin Fields had his chances. It never came together. While that sucks for him after all he’s been through, it doesn’t change the facts.
