Chicago Bears Front Office Reportedly “Exasperated” During Packers Game
Everybody wanted you to think the Green Bay Packers game wouldn’t significantly impact the big decisions ahead for the Chicago Bears. The fates of Matt Eberflus, his staff, and quarterback Justin Fields would be determined by their full body of work this season. That game at Lambeau Field was merely another step in the process. Yet, you wouldn’t know that from how front office members reacted to the game itself. According to Courtney Cronin of ESPN, there were a lot of noteworthy reactions from the top decision-makers.
She appeared on Waddle & Silvy to discuss the Bears’ situation. Tom Waddle asked her if the rough loss in Green Bay had any notable impact on the decision-making to come. Cronin can’t be sure of the exact details, but she did take note of a few things. While watching the offense during the game, she spotted Assistant GM Ian Cunningham with his head in his hands. After the game was over, a deflating 17-9 defeat, it was clear the front office members were “exasperated” by what they’d just witnessed.
That performance appears to have cemented the Chicago Bears’ plans.
Cronin can’t be sure what decisions are coming, but based on the feelers she’d had out, it seems like a solid bet that both offensive coordinator Luke Getsy and quarterback Justin Fields will not return next season. That means a complete offensive overhaul. The only uncertainty is what happens with Eberflus. Either the team retains him, hoping a staff change is enough to fix things, or the Bears go for the full reset to line up the quarterback and head coach. Either way, the front office’s reaction on Sunday evening makes it clear changes are coming.
It is merely a question of how drastic they’ll be.
Facts are facts. Whenever the Chicago Bears ran into a playoff team this season, it didn’t usually go well. Here is how many points the offense scored in each of those games.

Fields had five touchdowns and five interceptions in those games while failing to crack 200 yards passing in four of them. It isn’t hard to see why the team brass feels the best course of action is to flush the whole thing. Getsy sucks. He needs to go. Some people may want to keep Fields, but that would mean pairing him with his third offensive coordinator in four years. That never works. A clean slate is needed for all.
