Patrick Mahomes Candidly Compares GOAT Credentials to Tom Brady
The Chiefs quarterback could win his third Super Bowl title in five seasons on Sunday.
As Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes prepares for his fourth Super Bowl appearance in the last five seasons, he is constantly compared to seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady.
Brady won six titles with the New England Patriots over the course of 18 seasons from 2000 to ‘19. The Chiefs’ current dynasty is often seen as the NFL’s next dynasty, the sequel to Brady’s historic tenure in Foxborough.
Despite the constant comparison and the “GOAT” (Greatest of All Time) debate regarding the two quarterbacks, Mahomes still believes he has a way to go before they can be in the same conversation.
“I’ve only won two Super Bowls, so there’s a couple other guys in front of me before I even get close to chasing Tom [Brady],” Mahomes said Tuesday ahead of Super Bowl LVIII. “All I can do is be my best me I can be every single day. I’ll do that again next year and the next year after that. At the end of my career I hope I can say that I’m close to Tom.”

This answer is a little different from the one he gave last year ahead of Super Bowl LVII. Mahomes said then to ask him about the “GOAT” battle when he’s 38 and that it was too early to get into the discussion now. Mahomes was even asked about chasing Brady’s seven titles ahead of the 2023 season, in which he shared a similar statement about trying to be the best he can be.
Mahomes will look to win his third Super Bowl ring on Sunday, Feb. 11 when playing the San Francisco 49ers.
