Boomer Esiason thinks Bears GM Ryan Poles should be fired if they don’t draft Caleb Williams

0

While there’s been much debate about what the Chicago Bears should do with Justin Fields (mostly on social media), the decision is much more clear-cut with prominent NFL figures. Armed with the No. 1 overall pick thanks to a fortuitous trade with the Carolina Panthers last year, most believe Chicago should draft Southern California’s gifted Caleb Williams and make him the next face of the franchise.

You can count former 1988 NFL MVP Boomer Esiason in that group. He even went as far as to say that the decision should mean everything to Bears general manager Ryan Poles’ job security.

During Boomer and Gio on Tuesday morning, Esiason went all-in on Williams’ pro football future. He thinks he’s destined to be a special quarterback. Better yet, Esiason claimed that Poles should be fired from his role with the Bears if they pass on Williams and keep Fields, who has mostly underwhelmed in his three NFL seasons.

Honestly, it’s really hard to disagree.

The Bears have a golden opportunity to change the trajectory of their sad-sack franchise. It has literally fallen into their lap. Williams very well might be the first true franchise quarterback Chicago has had in decades. If the Bears pass on him for Fields and he becomes a massive success, it’ll be hard to argue that Poles should keep his job.
