Everything we know about the Dartmouth men's basketball team union
Dartmouth’s men’s basketball team just changed college sports forever.
The team’s players voted 13-2 to unionize in an election supervised by the National Labor Relations Board, USA TODAY’s Paul Myerberg writes.
The athletes held the vote in the school’s human resources offices. The players are now set to join the Service Employees International Union Local 560, representing other employees on Dartmouth’s campus.
This is a huge step forward for college athletes. This unionization effort could completely shatter the amateur sports business model the NCAA has profited off of for so long.
But things aren’t quite set in stone yet. There’s going to be a big push back against this that Dartmouth’s players will have to withstand. Let’s dive into it all here.
