Southampton fire updates — Championship match against Preston POSTPONED as major blaze breaks out near St Mary’s

TONIGHT’S Southampton vs Preston match has been postponed following a major blaze near St Mary’s stadium.

Large smoke clouds could be seen from around the city, ahead of a home game for the Championship club against Preston this evening.

The fire originated at a disused factory nearby which is reportedly owned by Southampton.

A statement read: “The decision was made after consultation with the local authorities and emergency services after a major fire broke out in a building next to the St Mary’s Stadium site earlier today.

“The incident has caused significant disruption in the area with road closures around the stadium still in place as fire crews continue to deal with the situation.
