Bears’ Addition Of D’Andre Swift Receiving Wide-Spread Praise
The Chicago Bears didn’t waste any time. Almost the exact moment the legal tampering period opened on free agency, news broke that they were working on a deal to sign 25-year-old running back D’Andre Swift, fresh off his Pro Bowl stint with the Philadelphia Eagles last season. They got him for three years at $24.5 million. While some were initially wary of that number, it became a non-issue once Saquon Barkley and Josh Jacobs got their respective paydays. People started to realize GM Ryan Poles may have landed his offense a playmaker at a solid price.
In these situations, the Bears are often lambasted for making a misguided decision. That wasn’t the case this time. Multiple experts with respected backgrounds came out in support of the move. They feel Chicago got themselves a capable player with versatility, explosiveness, and the exact skill set that fits their offensive system. Together with Khalil Herbert and Roschon Johnson, the offensive should have a deep backfield capable of helping a young quarterback find his way during the season.
D’Andre Swift is only the first step.
Rest assured, Poles is not done finding weapons for this offense. One can safely assume he will be active on the wide receiver front at some point in the near future. The Bears want credible bodies alongside D.J. Moore. They could also add another tight end behind Cole Kmet. If things go according to plan, Chicago could have one of its deeper offensive rosters in the past decade. If Caleb Williams is indeed their pick at #1 overall next month, he’d be walking into the best situation any Bears rookie quarterback ever has.
One must give credit to Poles. He has done a strong job piecing this picture together. It started with left tackle Braxton Jones in 2022, followed by right tackle Darnell Wright, right guard Nate Davis, and Moore last season. D’Andre Swift provides more firepower without the Bears coming anywhere close to breaking the bank. If they can secure two more wide receivers, opponents won’t be able to look past this team anymore, especially if Williams ends up being as good as the hype suggests.
