NFL fans thought the Falcons’ Kirk Cousins ‘Chainz’ promotional graphic was beyond unhinged
The Atlanta Falcons have every reason to be excited about Kirk Cousins. The quarterback is the first legitimate Pro Bowl-caliber signal-caller the Falcons have had since the heyday of Matt Ryan. Once stuck in the mud, Atlanta should now be considered a prime NFC South division contender, if not more.
But the Falcons’ social media team might have taken a one-time meme (emphasis on one-time) about the team’s new quarterback a bit too far.
On Thursday evening, Atlanta tweeted out a graphic featuring an illustrated, dead-eyed Cousins wearing multiple chains and a gold grill on his teeth. To say it was unhinged would be an understatement. (Never mind that Cousins has probably not intended for this to be a widespread meme that would be run into the ground.)
I mean, come on. What are we doing here? This is leaning into the bit way too much. There’s something to be said about building hype for a good quarterback. But this isn’t fun anymore.
