Derrick Henry Addresses Cowboys’ Lack of Pursuit in NFL Free Agency

The Baltimore Ravens made a big splash in free agency by signing star running back Derrick Henry, who left the Tennessee Titans this offseason after eight years with the team.

Henry reportedly had a handful of potential suitors in free agency, and among the teams linked to the 30-year-old were the Dallas Cowboys. 

Having parted ways with Tony Pollard and Ezekiel Elliott in back-to-back offseasons, the Cowboys have a significant need in the backfield. Fans were hoping they’d be in the mix for Henry in free agency, but after signing with the Ravens, the veteran running back told CBS Sports’s Adam Schein that he was never even contacted by Dallas.

“Dallas didn’t even—nah, not at all. I don’t really know what’s going on over there...” said Henry during an appearance on the Schein on Sports podcast. “Baltimore was showing the most interest and was somewhere that I wanted to be. I’m glad that we got it done, but the Cowboys never called at all.”

Henry admitted that the lack of perceived interest from Dallas was a bit surprising, especially given that he spends his offseasons in the area. Ultimately, he signed with Baltimore on a two-year, $16 million deal.

As it stands, the only running backs on the roster are Deuce Vaughn, Malik Davis and Connor Snoop, so it’s likely that the position will be further addressed by the team during the offseason. Though it seems that Henry wasn’t as much on their radar as many had anticipated.
