Sports bettors mourn the death of Bleacher Report betting analyst Troy Hermo
The sports betting world is in mourning this week after Troy Hermo, a betting analyst at Bleacher Report, died on Sunday night. The tragic news was announced on Hermo’s popular Twitter account where his brother Alex posted a final update Monday morning on the handicapper’s battle with cancer.
Hermo was diagnosed with stage 4 Adrenal Cancer in 2018 at just 24 years old and was as well known for his inspiring messages of hope as any of his betting picks, and it’s hard to say which proved more beneficial to his followers.
In the betting world, where it’s especially easy to feel isolated and confused, Hermo remained a ray of positivity even as he let his followers know his condition was becoming more dire.
The Las Vegas resident’s rise began in B/R’s LockyTown Discord, where he frequently provided analysis on the best NRFI plays. From there he grew his own following, working with B/R and creating his own betting maps to help others follow along and bet just about every sport.
As Hermo became more well-known on social media, his picks (which, again, were routinely profitable in an industry meant to make you lose long-term) took a backseat to the incredible kindness and optimism he exhibited. After particularly rough health news, Hermo would often wake up and send out a simple, invigorating message.
News of Hermo’s death was felt all across the betting world as many posted tributes and memories on social media.
