When someone is a legend, it’s sometimes hard to describe how much their impact changed the sports landscape, but with Stanford head coach Tara VanDerveer, it’s not hard at all. Tara spent 38 seasons — yes, THIRTY-EIGHT — at Stanford, earning 15 Pac-12 titles, 14 Final Four appearances, five National Coach of the Year honors, three national championships and 1,216 victories. With that kind of resume, it’s not hard to see why fans have big feelings about her retirement announcement on Tuesday evening.
Still, it didn’t stop them from cracking travel jokes about Stanford joining the ACC and simultaneously mourning the end of the Pac-12.
