Billy Joel fans were rightfully furious that CBS cut off Piano Man on some stations to start the local news
There should be one rule when it comes to airing a Billy Joel concert like CBS did on Sunday with his 100th consecutive sold-out show at Madison Square Garden: you do not, under any circumstances, cut off Piano Man.
It’s the song that Joel lets fans sing, it’s his signature tune and even if it’s not his greatest song, you have to let it finish so everyone at home can also sing along.
That didn’t happen for certain CBS affiliates on Sunday. It turns out that they cut off some of the song while going to the local news. I know there are schedules and all that, but c’mon!
Fans were so mad:
Viewers throughout the Eastern and Central Time Zones had the broadcast of the Billy Joel concert cut off, mid-Piano Man.
Evidently, CBS was no longer in the mood for a melody. pic.twitter.com/bVlcIReRXn

Billy Joel fans might burn CBS and its affiliates to the ground after cutting Piano Man off during the last verse… to play the local news on time.

Seriously, @CBSNewYork just cut off @billyjoel concert from #msg in the middle of #pianoman. Why did you show the concert, his 100th from Madison Square Garden if you were going to cut it off? Really bad form and @billyjoel producers should take action

How NOT to run a TV network … wouldn’t want to be customer relations at #CBS after this sudden exit from the #BillyJoel special … Heidi lives! pic.twitter.com/ukS3LbwFYA
