Antoine Evans is out as Sacred Heart Cathedral’s football coach

Sacred Heart Cathedral has dismissed head football coach Antoine Evans, sources close to the situation told the Bay Area News Group.

Evans’ departure comes after a 6-7 season in which the Fightin’ Irish reached the Central Coast Section Division II championship game.

The Irish lost in the final to archrival St. Ignatius on a walk-off 40-yard field goal, marking their second defeat to SI during the season.

SHC also lost 23-14 to SI in the traditional Bruce-Mahoney rivalry matchup at Kezar Stadium to end the regular season.

The Wildcats went on to win the CIF 3-AA state championship over Ventura on Friday.

In his four years in charge at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Evans compiled a career record of 16-29.

SHC athletic directors Phil Freed and Margi Beima did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Evans is the third West Catholic Athletic League coach from this past season who won’t be back next fall.

Last month, Bellarmine parted ways with David Diaz-Infante and Mike Machado stepped down after a nearly three-decade run at Valley Christian.
