South Korea: ROBOT skiers brush up on their slalom skills ahead of world's first ski robot challenge
On the sidelines of the main human Olympics, the Korean government has organised Ski Robot Challenge, the world's first ever ski tournament for self-operational humanoid robots. The robots are to battle it out in the slalom discipline on Monday.
A day prior to the contest, eight teams from universities and institutions had a chance to test the slope and adjust their robo-athletes for Monday's event.
Similarly to a human Giant Slalom event, robots must pass through the flags and reach the finish line of the 70-metre (230 feet) slope as fast as they can, without outside manipulation other than the start command at the outset.
Each team will have three attempts and the highest score will count towards the final result.
