What is Iran doing in Syria?

Iran have sought for years to convert the Sunni tribes dominating Deir Ezzor province to Shiism, a important part of the Iranian 'land bridge' across Middle East. They are successfully doing that lately while Arab Sunni goverments (powerful, but divided, corrupt and extremely weak leadership) look the other way, some are even supporting Iran to make that happen. No wonder everyone hates them.
