CMPD releases dash-cam, body-worn cam video in deadly 16' shooting

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has released dash-cam and body-worn cam footage in connection to a 2016 shooting where CMPD's SWAT Team shot and killed an armed man.

CMPD's SWAT Team and negotiators were called to the store concerning a man armed with a gun. When they arrived on scene they saw Sylasone Ackhavong in the parking lot waving a gun and wearing a bullet-proof vest.

Officers negotiated with Ackhavong for more than an hour and made a multitude of attempts to convince him to drop the gun.

During the incident, CMPD said responding officers perceived an imminent deadly threat from Ackhavong's actions and discharged their weapons intending to stop him. Ackhavong was struck by gunfire during the incident.
