Graphic footage of an ambush.

It happened in the Portuguese Guinea, somewhere between 1972 and 1973, during our colonial wars. French journalists escort an army platoon during a patrol and get much more than they bargained for. The ambush was perpetrated by the PAIGC forces of Am'ilcar Cabral, who were fighting for Independence, and left one dead and several injured.

It includes an analysis of the portuguese colony life and an interview with General Sp'inola, someone who was later instrumental in our transition to democracy, as he experienced first hand the disaster this infinite war represented to the portuguese and african people.

It's a shocking reminder of the reality of war. Death, the "thousand yard stare" on conscript soldiers's eyes. This madness was going on for 12 years in three different fronts (Guinea,Angola,Mozambique) and it took a revolution in Portugal for it to end, in the 25th of April 1974.

Portugal lost nearly 8,000 soldiers in all war fronts during the 13 years of war (1961-1974), many more were permanently injured and some still linger in psychiatric hospitals, unable to recover from war stress. Our enemies probably lost 100x that figure but won the war.
