Orange County Sheriff Fights Back Against Sacramento Sanctuary Law
The Orange County Sheriff's Department announced Monday that it will provide public information on the time and date inmates are released from custody.
They now have a "Who's in Jail" online database to show the date and time of inmate release. The agency says this will enhance communication with its law enforcement partners.
The release date information applies to all inmates, including those who are suspected of being in the country illegally. The idea is meant to assist agents with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. By making the information available to the entire public, the sheriff is making an end run around the sanctuary state law passed late last year, that prohibits California law enforcement agencies from cooperating with ICE.
Also, the Orange County Board of Supervisors made a related move, and announced they would join a federal lawsuit against the State, to fight the sanctuary policies.
