Teen sings 'Cops' song after giving police chase through a golf course
"Bad boys, bad boys, whatcha gonna do?"
A teen knew what he was going to do when they came for him.
Police officers in Haworth chased a 16-year-old from Newark who was allegedly driving a stolen car and led them through a golf course early Saturday, authorities said. When he was apprehended, he was singing "Bad Boys" - the "Cops" TV show theme song - as he was placed in a police car. The incident, captured on dash-cam footage, was obtained by The Record through an Open Public Records Act request.
Sgt. Gianluca Ragone was patrolling by Haworth Avenue and Schraalenburgh Road at 3:05 a.m. when he noticed someone in a Mazda 3 driving erratically, said Detective Sgt. Justin Fox. Ragone got behind the suspect as he turned. The suspect then sped off.
The teen evaded police as he drove through a stop sign, authorities said. At one point, the suspect looked to be boxed in but instead drove onto the golf course at White Beeches Country Club. The suspect then drove through parts of Dumont, where he bailed out of the vehicle on Andover Avenue, authorities said. Ragone bolted from his car and caught the suspect a short time later.
