Just a small update and chat.
Work is still progressing with the v3.0 platform as most of you are well aware. LL_Sun and the team are quite literally knocking their pans out and putting in horrific hours to not only further develop the platform but also deal with issues. I'm fully aware it's not happening as fast as some of you might like but we're working on a completely new platform which should be so more flexible for future development as well as working hard to make it more efficient and user friendly to have less centralised content and give users more control.
We're working within the resources we have available and luckily the core of the site seems solid and traffic and uploads are currently very healthy. This is a good thing! I have listened when some of you have told me we're doing it wrong or no other website would roll out like this and some of those comments have come from people with experience in web design though sadly not on this scale for a site which doesn't harvest your info and pimp out your personal lives for intrusive advertising.
We're going to keep working on the platform, we've been taking LOTS of notes regarding people's requests (block feature, posting, comment replies, deleting accounts, moderation etc) and none of it has fallen on deaf ears. It will simply take some time and although it can be frustrating when what you want isn't dealt with immediately please keep in mind everyone else feels the same and we simply have to prioritise.
It has been pointed out that the "how to" material is long overdue. I apologise fully for this, you are completely right. We'll be trying to set that straight in the very near future.
I've also been asked about what the LiveLeak platform's goals are. Firstly, we're a video sharing site. That should always be the core and unaffected. That being said we want those users who might wish to have the ability to use and create channels for video, images, blogs, or a mixture of those thing along with live streaming. All of which should be controlled by the channel owners and anyone they choose to help them moderate those channels. We're not abandoning LiveLeak owned channels, they'll continue and we've plans for more, but we do want to provide options and flexibility for those who want it.
The donation system will be returning to LL before too long. We know some content creators appreciated it and the generosity of LiveLeakers help keep folks in beer and pizza simply for sharing good content and we think that should be facilitated in the future too. This one isn't all that far away.
So, what's the bad news? There have been questions about forums or blog sections of late and at this time we've no plans to reincorporate a third party forum on LiveLeak for various reasons. We know the previous forums were enjoyed by a select group of LiveLeakers but, like chat, it's perhaps something not best suited to our site. Not everything pans out, unfortunately. As for a centralised blogging section we're not actively looking at recreating what we had with version 2.0. The blogs were used by quite literally a tiny minority of the users and often were a few lines long or simply drama factories. We're going to be looking at ways to enable more blogging but it won't be like it was. Sorry.
More updates as juicy stuff comes in. Could I also please apologise for not being able to answer everyone. The volume of correspondence on LL has never been less than overwhelming and I'm cool with that but I do my best to address as many members as I possibly can. Following me to Twitter or any other site honestly isn't going to help. I'm around the site most days, just hit me up via PM or "friend" me and catch me on the messenger. Keep in mind though, if I don't answer it might not be because I don't care or I don't like you, I might just be chatting with a few other people trying to help them out.
Thank you for continuing to use and support LL and be fully aware I know many of you complain and get frustrated because you dig the place. That means a lot to me and the guys because we love LL, if we didn't we'd have moved on long ago.
Cheers
H
