Cyclone Gita devastates Tonga

Tonga's neighbours are scrambling to deliver emergency relief after Cyclone Gita tore across the Pacific island nation in the middle of the night, flattening the parliament, tearing roofs off homes and causing widespread flooding. There were no confirmed of deaths from the Category 4 storm that bought winds of around 200 km (125 miles) per hour, but there were a lot of injured people, some seriously, said Graham Kenna, an Australian government adviser at Tonga's National Emergency Management Office. New York bomber, Ahmad Rahimi, sentenced to life in prison

The man convicted of setting off pressure cooker bombs in New York in 2016 has been given two life sentences. Afghan-born US citizen Ahmad Khan Rahimi injured 30 people when one of the bombs exploded in Manhattan. According to federal prosecutors, the 30-year-old has shown no remorse for his actions. Rahimi was accused of planting several homemade bombs including one along the route of a Marine Corps charity race. Some failed to detonate and others were dealt with by police explosives experts. Puppy gets it paw stuck on an escalator

A puppy had to be freed by an officer after getting its paw stuck in the grating of an escalator at Los Angeles International Airport recently, police said Tuesday. Officers responded to LAX Terminal 4 after receiving a report of a dog caught between the conveying steps of the escalator and the landing grate, according to a statement from the Los Angeles Airport Police.

Dresden marks World War II bombings

Several hundred people in the German city of Dresden have marked the 73rd anniversary of the Second World War bombings of the city. They formed a human chain across the river Elbe and lit candles to embody the horrors of the war, On the night of February 13, 1945, two waves of British bombers attacked the city, three hours apart. Almost 800 RAF Lancaster bombers let loose 1,182 tons of incendiaries and 1,478 tons of high explosives creating a firestorm that destroyed the city. A loud bang and violent shaking made for a frightening flight aboard the above United Airlines plane. As it crossed the Pacific Ocean en route from San Francisco to Honolulu, the casing around one of the engines ripped apart. The pilots declared an emergency and passengers were urged to fasten their seatbelts and adopt the brace position in preparation for an emergency landing.
