The 44 O'Shaughnessy: Bus winds through city's scenic spots
Tour San Francisco on the 44 O'Shaughnessy, Muni's unofficial tour bus, which cuts a wide swath through the city from the northwest to the southeast. The bus is named after Michael O'Shaughnessy, an Irish immigrant who became San Francisco's city engineer in 1912. He developed the Hetch-Hetchy water system and supervised construction of the Stockton Street Tunnel, the Twin Peaks Tunnel and myriad other projects. The bus stops at many San Francisco attractions.
