Rooney Mara Says ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ Sequel Is Probably Dead

«Indiewire»

If you’ve been paying attention to this blog for a few years — or really any outlet that has tracked the back-and-forth drama — you’ll know we’ve been saying it’s very unlikely there will be a sequel to David Fincher’s “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.” Released in 2011 — and losing momentum by the minute — the sequel grossed $102 million in the U.S. and only $232 million worldwide after a thirteen-week run. As a global best-seller a la “Fifty Shades Of Grey”— which in contrast has already grossed $409 million globally after two weeks ... Читать дальше...

«SFGate» (sfgate.com)

Craig Middleton is stepping down as executive director of the Presidio Trust, ending a 14-year tenure during which the park became financially self-supporting and endured several high-profile battles over development proposals. In a statement released Tuesday, Middleton said he was honored to have led the Presidio during a transformation that included achieving “financial self-sufficiency and some wonderful preservation successes and park-making accomplishments.” Middleton, 58, was a former aide to Rep. Analyze This: Why 'Birdman' Beat 'Boyhood' & More 2015 Oscar Fallout

«Indiewire»

Sick of all the Academy Awards chatter? We can’t really blame you. If that’s the case, feel free to change the channel, but some of us still had some overall thoughts on the Oscars now that we’ve had a chance to sit and digest it all. So how did it all turn out? Well, depending on who you are, it either went horribly wrong or it went terribly right. But truthfully, it just went how it went. I’m not sure why anyone would complain about an Oscar year where smaller-budgeted, character-driven indie... Читать дальше...

Kid Rock Puckers Up, Led Zep Gets 'Physical' & More

Yahoo Music

Kid Rock: First Kiss (Top Dog) It’s difficult to consider Kid Rock more a musician than he is an actual character: He’s vocal about his political beliefs and his audience—fans of the military, of WWE, of NASCAR,and of those who lean rightward—he’s had run-ins with the law, and he was once married to Pamela Anderson. Here, on his umpteenth album since God knows when, he’s settled on an agreeable path that not only suits him well, but is the course he’ll likely take from now on: Well-meaning heartland rocker... The 10 All-Time Best Episodes Of 'Parks And Recreation'

«Indiewire»

If you don’t already know this, I hate to break it to you: "Parks and Recreation" is coming to an end. The final episode of its final seventh season airs tonight, and in tribute, its biggest fans on The Playlist staff/in the world have tried to wrestle our infinite love for the show into just ten episodes. It’s not an easy task. 'Parks' went from a slow, hiccuppy first season to a consistently excellent run from its second season on (season 3, with 4 entries below is probably our favorite, while... Tunnel renaissance: Why cities are hiding roads down in the ground

The Independent

In JG Ballard's biting satire Concrete Island, architect Robert Maitland ploughs his Jaguar off the M4 and wakes up trapped within a tangle of slip roads. The novel was published in 1973, when motorways were all the rage. But that dystopian vision of chunky flyovers and tangled roads in the sky is disappearing, as cities around the world are electing to hide roads down in the ground.

Overcoming Obamacare: Three Approaches to Reversing the Government Takeover of Health Care

Cato Institute

Contrary to myth, Obamacare’s opponents have many alternatives to the health care law that is once again before the Supreme Court. The Washington Examiner’s Philip Klein, a leading conservative health care writer, takes us inside the debate on the right over how to overhaul the health care system along free-market lines in the wake of a ruling in King v. Burwell, and possibly in the wake of Obamacare. Drawing on eight years of experience reporting on the issue, and dozens of interviews with prominent health policy experts... Читать дальше...

Sheriff’s department to help some undocumented immigrants obtain visas

«SFGate» (sfgate.com)

Ross Mirkarimi (Credit: The Chronicle/2013) Last year, San Francisco Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi stopped honoring requests from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to hold undocumented inmates in jail longer just because they’re not in the country legally. Now, Mirkarimi is taking it a step further — actually helping some undocumented jail inmates obtain special visas to stay in the country legally. The U-Visa program was created by Congress in 2000 and implemented seven years later with... Читать дальше...

As 'The Indian Queen' opens, can Peter Sellars save the ENO?

The Independent

These are grim times at English National Opera. Earlier this month the company, which occupies the London Coliseum, the capital's largest theatre, was placed in "special measures" by Arts Council England: it has two years to shape up or face the funding axe. Its chairman, Martyn Rose, and executive director, Henriette Götz, had resigned within two weeks of each other, while the artistic director, John Berry, holds on despite a barrage of criticism; vision, finance and politics both internal and external seem much at odds.
