South Korea and the U.S. could face military action with “tremendous muscle” unless they cancel their Ulchi-Freedom Guardian exercises this month, North Korea warned Saturday. The annual training event is scheduled to begin Monday and end Aug. 28. When Seoul notified Pyongyang of its intention to participate, it sparked a big round of saber-rattling, USA Today reported.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — People filled a downtown courtroom to capacity Friday for the sentencing hearing of a teenager who admitted to hitting and killing a cyclist in 2014. Alexandra Ellis, now 18, pleaded guilty to negligent homicide for the hit-and-run crash that killed 51-year-old Jeff Holder-Dusenbury as he rode his bike on an Anchorage street, KTUU-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1Ko20WY ). Ellis, who was 17 at the time of the crash, admitted to hosting a party with alcohol and drugs the night before the accident.

Man arrested after 7 injured in hit-and-run incident in downtown L.A.

The Augusta Chronicle reports the weapon was discovered Friday morning at Thomson High School in McDuffie County.
