Tampa Bay Rays news and links: In the past, Evan Longoria was the future

DRays Bay

In the present, is he the present?

Way back in 2011 and 2012, The Hardball Times did “Franchise player drafts,” where they rated—ignoring contracts—who were the best players in the game to build a team around. They’ve dusted that off now, and will do another, but I link because of what it said in 2011.

At that time, the player THT staff most wanted to build a team around was Evan Longoria. Which is, you know, sort of what the Rays did. Looking back at that list, with 20/20 hindsight, was Longo the pick? Читать дальше...

Aaron Ramsey is getting back to his best

World Soccer Talk: World Cup 2014

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey is quite the polarizing player. Many fans and pundits will acknowledge that the 26-year-old Wales international is certainly a talented player. The knock, however, is the fact that he has shown to be inconsistent at times during his career. At his best, Ramsey was the club’s most outstanding player during the 2013/14 campaign. His play and knack for scoring immense goals, most notably the match-winning goal in the FA Cup final that season, helped end Arsenal’s nine year trophy drought. Читать дальше...

Reigns: Her Majesty turns the life of a queen into a wonderfully tense strategy game

The Verge

I never realized just how many ways there were for a queen to die. In the case of the late Queen Elizabeth, it was cruelty; her people lived in squalor, and eventually they rose up and killed her. Her descendant, Mikki, didn’t fare much better despite a wildly different personal philosophy. She was so beloved she ended up trampled during a stampede for her affection. At times, it feels like there’s no right way to be: no matter how sweet or stern of a monarch you are, a cruel death always awaits you in the end. Читать дальше...
