ATF seeks suspect in 2nd fire at same Emeryville development
Federal investigators said Wednesday that they’re seeking a suspect in last month’s fire that gutted a big residential and business complex under construction in Emeryville, the second suspicious blaze to hit the site in less than a year.
The May 13 fire all but burned down the $35 million development known as the Intersection near Interstate 580 and the Oakland border.
[...] agents from the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives have been inspecting the twisted remains of metal on the 3800 block of San Pablo Avenue in an effort to determine the cause.
A news conference is planned for Thursday afternoon with representatives from the ATF, the Alameda County Fire Department and the Emeryville Police Department, said Alexandria Corneiro, an ATF spokeswoman.
The developer has begun to clean up the construction site surrounding the unfinished five-story building, which was initially damaged in a July 2016 fire that spread to nearby homes.
The fire will set back construction of the mixed-use project, which will include 105 residential units and 21,000 square feet of retail space, at least nine months, Holliday said.
