Durant takes over Game 3 finale, makes shots that seal Cavs’ fate
In that moment Wednesday night, with the outcome twisting in doubt and 20,562 fanatical Cavs fans growing more and more nervous with each dribble he took, the Warriors absolutely were Durant’s team.
Durant scored seven consecutive points to essentially decide Game 3 of the NBA Finals.
Stephen Curry added two game-icing free throws in the closing seconds, and suddenly the Warriors stood one victory from their second NBA championship in three years.
Durant finished with 31 points on 10-of-18 shooting, including 4-of-7 from three-point land.
[...] what Warriors fans will remember are the final 1:15, when it looked like the Cavs were about to hand Golden State its first loss of the postseason.
Durant drained a 13-foot jumper to trim Cleveland’s lead to 113-111.
[...] after Kyle Korver missed a three from the corner, Durant corralled the rebound with his impossibly long arms and took the ball downcourt.
Thompson scored 16 of his points in the first quarter, to keep the Warriors close when the Cavs came out sharp.
Durant, Curry and Thompson combined to make 15-of-27 three-pointers (56 percent).
Good defense often makes no difference, given his unique combination of height and long-range accuracy.
If I miss, we still have time to make stops. …
“He’s a confident basketball player who knows his ability,” Curry said of Durant.
