House bills on abortion aim to avert possible gov't shutdown

«SFGate» (sfgate.com)

WASHINGTON (AP) — Seeking to avert a government shutdown, Republican leaders are hoping to contain conservatives' demands for a politically risky showdown with President Barack Obama by striking a quick blow against abortion and Planned Parenthood. The vote followed a no-holds-barred debate that included a graphic, poster-size photo of a scarred, aborted fetus and underscored how abortion has resurfaced as a white-hot political issue. The issue's re-emergence followed the release of secretly recorded... Читать дальше...

Counter: Lots of ice cream, lots of tacos

Los Angeles Times (latimes.com)

«SFGate» (sfgate.com)

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The number of homeless students attending public school in Pennsylvania increased by 18 percent between the 2012-13 and 2013-14 school years — an increase more than double the national average of 8 percent, according to statistics reported by the U.S. Department of Education.
