Strong 6.9-magnitude quake hits Chile, no tsunami alert

A strong 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of central Chile late on Tuesday but there was no immediate tsunami alert, US seismologists said. The epicentre of the quake was near the coast, said the US Geological Survey.
