An Alaska outdoor studies assistant professor was mauled by a bear Monday while teaching a mountaineering class near Haines, according to a University of Alaska Southeast spokeswoman. University of Alaska Southeast spokeswoman Katie Bausler says the students are off of the mountain and staying with another faculty member in Haines. The university website lists a Forest Wagner as an assistant professor of outdoor studies.
