College scholarship program receives $275,000 in donations

The Kalamazoo Gazette and WXMI-TV report that $250,000 was donated anonymously to the Kalamazoo Promise free-tuition program for 10 students seeking teaching degrees at Western Michigan University. The money is in addition to tuition provided by the program and will cover room and board, books, transportation and other costs.

Ex-president of Broward teacher union gets more prison time

(AP) — The former president of the Broward Teachers Union has been sentenced to another year and a half in prison, on top of five years he already received for fraud and campaign finance violations. Santeramo also made illegal campaign contributions by having 25 people make the donations and then reimbursing them with teacher union money.
