This picture perfectly captures the first meeting between Trump and all the tech CEOs who opposed him

It's no secret that Silicon Valley's tech leaders were not exactly thrilled about the idea of a Donald Trump presidency.

And to judge by the lugubrious miens exhibited in this photo, the tech moguls who visited Trump Tower on Wednesday for a sit-down with the president elect look pretty uncomfortable.

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, on the left, looks like he just heard some very bad news, while Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg appears to be biting her lip. Larry Page, the CEO of Google-parent company Alphabet... Читать дальше...

5 things to say instead of 'sorry'

BusinessInsider.com

I recently came across a Pantene ad that went viral in June.

Besides highlighting the flawless and beautiful hair of the actresses, it features multiple situations where women unnecessarily say “sorry” — a verbal tic that, for many women, has become entrenched in everyday conversation.

In scene after scene of the ad, women are shown apologizing for a series of silly reasons.

It becomes clear the women should not be remorseful. Yet as I was watching, I had this horrifying epiphany — I do this. Читать дальше...

Russia prevented the United Nations Security Council on Wednesday from thanking outgoing Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon specifically for promoting gay rights during his decade in office, diplomats said.

The 15-member council met to pay tribute to Ban, who will step down later this month. Being gay is a crime in at least 73 countries, the U.N. has said, and the issue of gay rights consistently sparks heated debate at the United Nations.

The Worst Year Ever, Until Next Year

The New Yorker

A meme is currently circulating on Twitter in which people post two contrasting photos: one is “me at the beginning of 2016”; the other is “me at the end of 2016.” Popular entries have included a duckling holding a butter knife vs. a raven holding a serrated blade, a young Leonardo DiCaprio in “Titanic” vs. a frozen DiCaprio in “The Revenant,” and the Statue of Liberty as it stands currently vs. the decaying, beached Statue of Liberty from “Planet of the Apes.” Like all meme jokes, it stops being funny when you write it down.
