Oakland A’s Chris Bassitt won’t miss much time
Chris Bassitt’s shoulder soreness was minor enough that he required no MRI on Monday and, the starter said, he is hopeful he will be back soon, perhaps another week or two.
“Everything is basically stable and the strength is there,” he said.
Bassitt’s trouble is muscular, in the shoulder blade area; there is no structural damage.
“We’re just going to let it calm down and see when he can throw a baseball again,” manager Bob Melvin said.
According to Melvin, reliever Evan Scribner, who left Monday’s game with some discomfort, also has a problem in the scapula area but was yet to see team doctors.
Rookie Billy Burns is out with a jammed left wrist incurred Saturday at Arizona, and Melvin said he’d like to get him Wednesday’s day game off too, especially with an offday coming up Thursday.
Sam Fuld is dealing with some on-and-off again back spasms is considered day-to-day.
Coco Crisp also was out of the lineup, his availability always uncertain with his chronic neck problem along with recent hip and ankle injuries.
Some of the A’s most highly regarded prospects will participate in the Arizona Fall League, including left-hander Sean Manaea, who was acquired from Kansas City in the Ben Zobrist deal.
Manaea was limited to 68 1/3 innings after an abdominal and groin strains, so playing for Mesa is an excellent way to get him additional work.
[...] going to the AFL: shortstop Chad Pinder, who was just named Texas League MVP; 2014 first-rounder Matt Chapman, a third baseman; and Midland outfielder Jaycob Brugman and right-handers Kris Hall and Brendan McCurry.
Not only is Sonny Gray the AL ERA leader, but he’s also a heck of a defensive player.
