9/11 parade set in Sacramento for France train heroes
Three men with Sacramento roots who were hailed worldwide as heroes for foiling a terrorist attack on a train in France will be honored with a parade in the state capital next week.
“Our community has been anxiously awaiting the return of our three hometown heroes — Anthony, Alek and Spencer — so that we can celebrate and honor their incredible courage,” Johnson said in a statement.
What better way to remember the victims and sacrifices that were made on that tragic day and to celebrate the strength and character of our country?
On Aug. 21, the three childhood friends, all of whom have ties to the Sacramento area, were on a train bound for Paris from Amsterdam when chaos broke out.
The gunman, whom authorities have identified as Ayoub El-Khazzani, a 26-year-old Moroccan, was brandishing an automatic rifle.
Spencer makes first contact, he tackles the guy, Alek wrestles the gun away from him, and the gunman pulls out a box cutter and slices Spencer a few times.
[...] the three of us beat him until he was unconscious.
