|||Cape Town - While shoppers inside Checkers in Plumstead went about their business, two employees survived serious injury when they fell from the building’s roof.
The Shoprite Checkers group has since launched an investigation after
the incident that occurred just before 4pm on Monday.
The two employees were transported to hospital with slight injuries, Shoprite Checkers group’s spokesperson Sarita van Wyk said.
There was, however, not enough information to provide a detailed report but Van Wyk said they were investigating.
“I can only confirm that a section of an office roof in the receiving area of Checkers Plumstead collapsed while staff was moving stock into storage.”
As shopping carried on as usual inside the establishment, staffers said their colleagues were not badly injured. “They were still talking when they were put into the ambulance so I think they will be fine,” said an employee, who asked not to be named.
The employee added that the manager and regional manager were assessing the situation and directed media queries to the head office in Brackenfell.
