Giants’ Tim Hudson says he’s OK for next start
Tim Hudson said after throwing a 20-pitch bullpen session Friday that he believes he is good to go for his scheduled start on Sunday.
Some right hip discomfort knocked Hudson out of his last start a little early.
Manager Bruce Bochy said before Hudson’s bullpen session, “We’ll see how the hip is coming — we do have some options if he feels it at all,” mentioning that Ryan Vogelsong and Matt Cain are among those available if needed.
Hudson has been excited about making one of his final starts at the Coliseum in one week after spending the first five seasons of his career with Oakland, and there has been thought the Giants might push him back to ensure he can make a start against the A’s.
Bochy said Friday that any decision will boil down to Hudson’s health, plus the standings.
[...] I would want to do something like that for Huddy if healthy and good to go and things are on schedule … sure, I think it would be pretty special to end his career starting there.
Hudson also felt good enough with his hip Friday to take batting practice with the other starters.
Bochy said that infielder Nori Aoki, out since Sept. 5 with a concussion, might be able to play the final week of the season, but there was no update on outfielder Gregor Blanco, who also is out with a concussion.
Hunter Pence (oblique) remains in a holding pattern, with no indications he’ll be ready before the end of the season.
Bochy said Pence was being held back from swinging off a tee because he’s not ready yet.
