Lawmakers to hold hearing on genetically modified food bill

BOSTON (AP) — State lawmakers are planning to hear from the public this week on a bill that would require that all foods sold in Massachusetts containing genetically engineered ingredients be clearly labeled.

The food industry has pointed to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's voluntary labeling policy, but opposes making it mandatory, arguing that genetically modified ingredients are safe.
