Belt’s injury paves way for Giants catcher Trevor Brown to make major-league debut
Trevor Brown, like most young baseball players, always dreamed of taking the field for a major-league game.
Brown found out he would make his major-league debut for the Giants on Saturday against the Diamondbacks, starting at catcher.
The same thing happened in the minor leagues.
Brown’s versatility sent him around the infield (mostly at second base), when injuries left his team short-handed.
Brown hit .261 in 82 games at Triple-A Sacramento, with two home runs and 27 RBIs.
Manager Bruce Bochy, a former catcher, acknowledged that converting a player from another position doesn’t always work out.
**Buster Posey will play first base Saturday, in Belt’s absence (creating the opening for Brown at catcher).
Brown and Jackson Williams are the other catchers on the active roster at the moment, with Andrew Susac and Hector Sanchez on the disabled list.
