N.Y. attorney general halts fantasy-sports sites
New York’s attorney general has told the daily fantasy-sports companies DraftKings and FanDuel to stop accepting bets in the state, saying their operations amount to illegal gambling.
In letters sent to the companies Tuesday, Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said their contests are promoted like a lottery and are essentially games of chance, not skill.
In a separate statement, he accused the companies of being “leaders of a massive, multibillion-dollar scheme intended to evade the law and fleece sports fans across the country.”
New York-based FanDuel said in a statement that its games are legal and Schneiderman is merely out for media attention.
The junior forward led the league in points (34) and helped Cal to a third-place Pac-12 finish and a No. 3 seed in the NCAA tournament.
The Cardinal won their fifth league title in seven years and are a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament.
U.S. men’s national team coach Jurgen Klinsmann says he plans to rotate goalkeepers Tim Howard and Brad Guzan until deciding on a No. 1 for next year’s Centennial Copa America.
“Part of being a goalkeeper is that everyone is competing for one spot on the field,” Guzan said Tuesday, three days before the Americans start qualifying for the 2018 World Cup with a match against St. Vincent and the Grenadines in St. Louis.
Guzan became the No. 1 in Howard’s absence this year and started in the CONCACAF Gold Cup and in last month’s 3-2 loss to Mexico in the playoff for a 2017 Confederations Cup berth.
