‘Love rat’ pastor on the run
The “second wife” of a Cape Town pastor, who faces jail time, has laid charges of bigamy against him.
|||Cape Town - A pastor whose lies were exposed in the Daily Voice is on the run, and could face time in jail.
The second “bride” of the married pastor who impregnated her has laid a charge of bigamy against him.
Cops are now hunting for Pastor Grant Wilmot, 48, who claimed he was single when he wed Angelique Jacobs, 24, last month.
The Pelican Park mother has a two-year-old son, and is also five months pregnant with Wilmot’s child.
Wilmot is the head of his church, The Father’s House for All Nations, in Retreat.
Two days after their wedding, she found out he was already married to another woman for 20 years.
Angelique said she hasn’t seen him since, but received an SMS from him on Sunday.
It read: “I just want to thank you for what you did to me by going to the paper. You have totally destroyed my life, I lost everything… I have nothing left now.
“I don’t think you realise what you have done but the damage has been done.
“I don’t have the money to give to you because I don’t have a job so please don’t contact me again, when the baby is born then you can contact me and then we can chat about how I am going to support the baby.”
Angelique said she met Wilmot on social networking site WeChat two years ago.
She fell pregnant and they tied the knot on October 17.
But her happiness turned to shock when an friend checked his Facebook profile and discovered that he was already married to a school teacher. Wilmot has denied the allegations.
Angelique’s heartache has now turned to anger.
“I went to Grassy Park Police station a few days after the story was published and showed them a copy of the newspaper.
“I gave a statement to [Grassy Park] police on how he lied to me that he wasn’t married. They said it is fraud, bigamy. They said he can face life inside prison.”
Constable Noloyiso Rewana has confirmed a case of bigamy is under investigation.
“The suspect is yet to be arrested.”
The Daily Voice contacted Wilmot via telephone and text message for comment but he has yet to respond.
