|||Cape Town - A Bonteheuwel father was shot dead returning from work and two other people were shot, one fatally, in separate attacks in the area this week.
Police spokeswoman Constable Noloyiso Rwexana confirmed that police attended to a scene in Bonteheuwel Avenue at about 4.45pm on Monday.
Upon arrival they found the body of 32-year-old Riaan Brown on Taaibos Street. Brown had been shot in the head and died on the scene.
Brown was shot while waiting for a taxi to travel home, minutes after he had disembarked from a train.
Brown’s younger brother, Anthony van der Wat, said: “My brother was shot while he was returning from work. Rival gangs started shooting at each other, and when one gang member saw him standing there, he decided to shoot him. He was a working man who was not part of any gang.”
Van der Wat said his brother was shot twice in the head.
“He leaves behind his wife and three children.
“I can’t explain the way I feel right now. He was a true older brother, he always checked up on me to see how I was since I live in Mitchells Plain. We will never recover from this.”
Referring to the other incident, also on Monday, Rwexana said: “A shooting incident occurred (Monday) at about 9pm at Prunus Street, Bonteheuwel.
“According to the reports, police attended to the crime scene and upon arrival they found two victims with gunshot wounds. A 42-year-old man died on the scene due to his injuries. The other victim was transported to hospital for medical treatment.”
She said circumstances relating to both shootings are unknown at this stage, no one has been arrested, cases of murder and attempted murder were being investigated.
