Yahoo adds competitive video gaming to sports vertical

NEW YORK — Yahoo is adding a potentially lucrative component to its sports package: competitive video gaming.

The company announced Wednesday that it will offer Yahoo Esports, an online channel devoted to gaming, including expert commentary and interviews with top players.

Sunnyvale’s Yahoo recently hired three investment banking firms to evaluate bids for its Internet operations.
