The Visa Restrictions Index collected by the London-based citizenship and immigration firm Henley & Partners released a new list of the world’s most powerful passports of 2016 year.
A new review that ranks countries around the world on the amount of “travel freedom” accorded to their citizens shows that Germans have the most powerful passport, offering visa-free access to 177 countries and territories out of a total of 218.

Germany has kept this distinction since 2014. Swedes were close behind, with visa-free access to 176 countries.
Travel freedom is described as the number of countries where residents can travel to without needing a visa, or where they will receive a visa upon arrival.
Nigeria is named number 92 in comparison with the previous year 94 position in the world with visa free access to 45 countries.
Nigeria ranking on the list of of world’s most powerful passports
The third place is occupied by France, Finland, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom, their residents can travel without visa to 175 countries. United States citizens can drop in visa-free on 174 countries, together with citizens of Belgium, Denmark and the Netherlands.
Somalia, Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan have ‘the worst passports in the world’.
A country’s ability to obtain visa waivers reflects its diplomatic relations with other countries.

Africa’s most powerful passport holders are from Seychelles. Nigerian passport is on the list of top ten most powerful passports on the continent.
A Nigeria passport holder can go to Barbados, Dominica and Montserrat for half a year; to Fiji for 4 months; to Haiti and Saint Kitts and Nevis for 3 months; and to Vanuatu and Niue for 30 days.
