However, according to Punch, Chukwu explained that the Super Eagles are faced with much more problems in which a foreign coach will not automatically do the job, adding that there are good indigenous coaches for the position.
“If the NFF wants to hire a foreign coach they can do so since they are the ones who will pay for his services. But I think a foreign coach is not the solution to the problems of the Eagles,” the former Nigeria captain said.
“The Eagles need a coach who knows the Nigerian terrain to handle the team and not a coach who will be working mostly from outside the country.
“There are many competent coaches here in the country who will do the same job a foreign coach will do. Only few world-class coaches can cope with the peculiar nature of the Nigerian structure.

“The basic solution to the team’s problem is to have a long-term plan which will enable any coach hired to work on the successes and failures of the team as well as improving their performance. The problem is that we are not patient enough with coaches and we sack them after a bad time.
“If the foreign coach comes and he didn’t do well, he will still be sacked. So why not look at a long-term solution rather than a short-term one, which I think the hiring of a foreigner is.”
