Tony Scott’s ‘The Hunger’ screens in Oakland

If nothing else, filmmaker Tony Scott brought us a lesbian scene between Susan Sarandon and Catherine Deneuve.

OK, he would go on to achieve a lot more, but the cult favorite “The Hunger” — his first Hollywood film — set the tone for his belief in eye candy, from the actors (David Bowie and Deneuve are vampires living in modern-day Manhattan), costuming and set design (Deneuve sports ’80s Euro-trash looks as well as Yves Saint Laurent), cinematography (Stephen Goldblatt) and, most of all, over-the-top outrageousness.
