Stanford, Washington meet in Pac-12 tournament opener
All the teams are as they enter the Pac-12 basketball tournament starting Wednesday in Las Vegas.
On top of that, as the ninth seed, they take on eighth-seeded Washington in the tournament opener at 12:10 p.m. Wednesday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Stanford (15-14) gave up 94 points to Arizona on Saturday in a hail of three-point field goals, nine by longtime Cardinal nemesis Gabe York.
UW has the highest scoring team in the conference, led by the No. 1 scorer in the Pac-12, guard Andrew Andrews (21.2 points per game).
The only way Stanford can make the NCAA Tournament is to pull a colossal surprise and win the Pac-12 event.
Last year, Stanford beat Washington 71-69 in the first round in Las Vegas, but it took a three-pointer by Chasson Randle with 2.4 seconds left to do it.
Guard Christian Sanders again won’t play after missing the Arizona trip for an undisclosed violation of team rules.
Dawkins hopes he can play Wednesday.
Because of injuries, Stanford has been without starting point guard Robert Cartwright all season and top rebounder Reid Travis for all but eight games.
