The majority of the NWC members who spoke during the meeting asserted that the party has lost one of the friendliest ministers in President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet.
The NWC members at the session took turn to pay accolades to the late minister, and called for his proper remembrance.
The acting national chairman, Segun Oni, in his tribute, stated that Ocholi served the party and the country with great love and passion, while the national vice chairman in the South-South, Hillard Etta, described him as a perfect gentleman whose humility could be detected miles away.
Etta further said that Ocholi was one of the most approachable ministers in President Buhari’s government.
The party’s national secretary, Mai Mala Buni, in his remarks said the late minister lived a fulfilled life, and pointed out that he was a committed party member.
“He lived a fulfilled life, he was a committed party member. His demise was a great loss to this party, this nation and the people of Kogi State. We must take solace in the fact that death is inevitable end and one thing that cannot be predicted. We as a party must do everything possible to ensure that Chief James Ocholi is properly immortalized,” he said.
Speaking also, Emma Eneukwu, national vice chairman (South-East) described Ocholi as the epitome of humility and hard work, adding that before his demise, he promised to help him sort some issues not knowing that death was close.
The party’s national organising secretary, Osita Izunaso, disclosed that most of the things in the party’s constitution today were made possible by Ocholi. He recalled that the late minister administered the oath of office on the present NWC members.
Meanwhile, the members of the NWC also used the opportunity to express concern over the recent killings of its members in Rivers state.
The concern was raised by Oni, following the death of a ward chairman, Mr. Franklin Obi, who was murdered alongside his wife and son recently.
The acting national chairman reproached the media for not giving sufficient reportage of the attacks “against members of the APC in Rivers and other places.”

Oni, who called on security agencies to brace up and curb the waves of violence in the state, said: “The police and other security agencies should take responsibilities for what is happening in Rivers State, this is a very serious issue and you as members of the press, should see what is happening as real emergency that should not be treated with kid gloves.”
Vanguard reports that the late minister will be buried alongside his wife and son next week. A family source said that the burial will take place between Wednesday and Friday next week as revealed by Chris Ngige, the minister of labour and employment, when he visited the bereaved family. The source said they have presented the proposal to the government through Senator Ngige, who is expected to convey the information on how the burial will go to the presidency.
